Purple buds give rise to flat topped clusters of golden yellow 1 daisy-like flowers atop erect flowering stems from April through July, long stalked basal leaves are round to heart-shaped up to 6 long - they are semi-evergreen (with a tendency for purple on the underside) & make a nice ground cover, smaller stalkless dissected leaves continue up each flowering stem, clump forming by creeping rhizomes, tolerant of most soils (even clay!), food plant for Northern Metalmark Butterfly caterpillars (Calephelis borealis), nectar source for bees & butterflies, good rain garden plant, fragrant roots.
