Very showy spike-like clusters of lavender-white 1" tubular flowers in August, leaves 4" long at base of plant, spreads well by rhizomes (very well in light or sandy soil), will grow (& spread slowly) in dry &/or poor soil, attracts hummingbirds & butterflies, clay tolerant, good rain garden plant. If the flowers are moved on the stem to face a different direction, they stay in the new position - hence the name 'Obedient plant'.
