A very slender-leaved sedge of moist deciduous woodlands. Flowers are somewhat inconspicuous and turn to small spiky seedheads (June-July). Tolerates occasional flooding, rocky soil, and shade. Creates excellent cover and possible nesting habitat for insects and small woodland wildlife (the seeds may also feed wildlife and songbirds). Often overlooked and understudied, primarily found in moist high-quality woodlands. Overall a lovely and attractive sedge.
