Flowering from May through July, green flowers turn to brown/bronze seed heads and persist through the fall, a robust tuft forming sedge developing 2 foot wide clumps up to 3 feet tall, long narrow leaves less than 1/4 inch wide, tolerates regular inundation up to 6 inches, food for many bird species and mammals, host of several butterflies, skippers & moths including the Eyed Brown ((Satyrodes eurydice)) and the Mulberry Wing (Poanes massasoit), Salt tolerant , tolerates a wide range of soils (sand, silt, gravel, loam, clay), good for erosion control and Rain gardens.
