Somewhat shorter and more compact than most species of Joe Pye Weed, frothy mauve flower heads top out these bold cluster-forming plants from July-October, broad ovate leaves up to 7 inch long and 3.5 inch wide create whorls of bright green with sometimes purple veining around the stiff, purple-freckled stems. Attracts butterflies and bees, makes for an ideal rain garden plant. Both clay and sand tolerant.
