Queen of the Prairie Picture

This is a rare, robust, and ridiculously showy plant. Spectacular frothy, vibrantly-pink flowers (June-August) are framed by deeply-lobed showy foliage that somewhat resembles maple leaves. Seeds appear as dry achenes, and are easy to overlook. Tolerates occasional flooding, poorly-drained soil, clay, occasional drought, and in some places is considered an indicator plant of high-quality wetlands (it generally prefers to grow in wet soil, but will tolerate average soil). Spreads readily by rhizomes and can create incredibly showy masses when growing in ideal conditions. The flowers are favorites of small native bees, and although this species can get to be quite tall, it very rarely flops over. Generally considered somewhat deer and rabbit resistant. There seems to be some variety in flower color, with some conditions or plants having paler pink flowers, but this species is incredibly showy regardless.
