White/Pink nodding bells pollinated by bumble bees from May through July, round bright red fruits persist through winter, glossy dark green leaves are evergreen and develop a purple blush in winter, needs rich acid soil, the leaves and fruit both smell and taste of wintergreen, good rain garden plant, salt tolerant, an excellent (if slow growing) rhizomatous creeping evergreen groundcover, fruits are eaten by a variety of wildlife including grouse, bobwhite quail, and wild turkeys.
