An airy rush of wetlands with attractive reddish-bronze persistent seedheads from July-October. Leaves are slender, upright, and round. Tolerates poor soil, clay, sand, flooding, and some salt-although it will grow in slightly brackish water, it is not generally found in true saltwater wetlands. Along with other wetland species, provides good cover for birds, which will also eat the seeds.
