Spikes of large lavender 2-lipped tubes with white throats from May through July, paired leaves ascend the stems, leafy bases are semi-evergreen, spreads by seed and short rhizomes, attracts hummingbirds, prefers sandy well-drained soil. Why "gray"? The stems are covered with tiny hairs!
