Pretty erect racemes of tiny greenish-white flowers (July-October) atop winged bases arise from leaf axils of this twining vine, cascading clusters of white ruffled winged seeds are quite attractive, seeds are spread by wind or water (they float!), stems are green to red, alternate heart-shaped leaves, tolerates rocky or gravelly soil, a fast growing vine that can be quite aggressive, moth host plant, seeds are important food for birds and other wildlife (including sparrows, woodcocks, quail, redpolls, etc.).
