A charming, running groundcover of well-drained areas. Cheerful yellow flowers appear sporadically from March until June on stalks above low five-part leaves, which often take on an attractive reddish tinge. Tolerates drought, gravel, shallow soil, acid soil, salt, dry open areas, and grows very readily between rocks, making it a very good choice for partially paved areas and walls. Spreads by long stolons, allowing it to run over rocks until it reaches another soil opening. The Xerxes society lists this species as having special value to native bees, and it also serves as a food source for skipper butterflies and a variety of other pollinators.
