Open clusters of bright yellow densely-petaled daisy-like flowers from July to October, flower stems arise from a collection of large (6-20 inch long) long-petioled thick and rough basal leaves with broadly serrated edges and heart-shaped bases, upper stem leaves are quite small & clasp the stem creating the appearance of towering and almost naked many-branched flowering stems, tap roots can extend as much as 14 feet deep, attracts and supports native bees, drought tolerant, gold finches love the seeds, tolerates rocky or gravelly soil.
