A short, bushy aster of open areas, this species produces tightly-massed showy white flowers along its stems from September to November, turning to tufts of wind-distributed seeds as the fall progresses. Leaves are short, slender, and dark green, almost similar to rosemary leaves in appearance. Tolerant of an incredible variety of conditions, this species tolerates salt, drought, clay, sand, rocky conditions, poor-quality soil, and occasional flooding (it can be a good option for rain gardens or dry areas!). According to the Xerxes society, this species is of special value to native bees and honeybees. It's also a host plant, and is especially important to pollinators as a late-season bloomer.
