Upland Ironweed Picture

Deep purple masses of densely clustered fine-petaled flowers atop tall sturdy stems from late July through September, dark green lance shaped leaves with serrated edges, drought tolerant, attracts Butterflies & native bees, host to American Painted Lady Butterfly (Vanessa virginiensis) caterpillars. Much more drought tolerant that its better known cousin, NY Ironweed (V. noveboracensis).
